Dawlish vs Ilfracombe

TOOLSTATION WESTERN LEAGUE

DAWLISH TOWN 0 ILFRACOMBE TOWN 0

The defensive units of both sides produced top class performances to deny both sets of attackers to produce a stalemate at Sandy Lane.

Dawlish were missing the influential Gary Head through suspension but were able to recall Darren Vickery in midfield.

Dawlish started strongly and both Jamie Mudge and Antony Lynch fired shots narrowly off target. They continued to press and Derek Fields volleyed just over the bar from the edge of the box. Ilfracombe looked to threaten on the break and Dawlish keeper Ryan Draper made a sharp double save to deny their centre forward.

A five man passing move from Dawlish opened up the Ilfracombe defence but the keeper was quickly off his line to deflect a Mudge shot for a corner.

The second half was a more even encounter as Ilfracombe grew in confidence. They have the division’s leading scorer in Leon Taswell but he was well marshalled throughout by the impressive Craig Fenner at the centre of the Dawlish defence.

The best chance of the half fell to Dawlish in the shape of Liam Moseley but as he tried to round the keeper he lost balance and his right foot shot went agonisingly over the bar.

On Boxing Day Dawlish Town have the plum fixture when they have the opportunity to inflict the first defeat of the season on top of the table Truro City.
